Fire Control
I had a small part to play in Radio 4 'File on Four' investigation in to the massive overspend on Regional Fire Control Centres.
The Institute of Financial Studies
The Institute of Financial Studies has finally disabused the supporters of the Coalition that its Budget was 'progressive' in terms of its tax and spend implications.
A lamentable decision
The decision by Stroud District Council Planning Executive Sub Committee to give consent to a motorway service area at Brookthorpe dredges the bottom of the barrel in terms of its competence and ethical standards – quite simply there is no need for an MSA at this point on the M5 and yet again the Tories on Stroud District Council have at best bottled it when it comes to protecting the countryside.
So how long does it take to fix a website?
Unfortunately the MP for Stroud seems to have a long standing problem with his website it has now been out of use for the last month and shows no sign of coming back in to life. Surely it is not too much to ask that he communicates occasionally with the electorate given that Parliamentary Allowances encourage an MP to run a half decent website as I was able to do.
Re-doubling Swindon - Kemble
Recent reports that the Swindon - Kemble redoubling of the line between Cheltenham to Paddington is more than disappointing. Contrary to the misinformation that is being put about by the Coalition the planned restoration was funded money having been obtained from the recently dropped Kinkerswell by-pass in Devon.
The Tolpuddle Martyrs
On Sunday 18th Jul I attended the last day of the Tolpuddle Festival to hear Tony Benn, Billy Bragg and others. The commemoration is held every year remembers the 6 Dorset farm labourers who were transported to Australia for swearing an oath to a trade union back in the early 19th century.

Blog Laughable

Knowing how a good MP can work brings me to the most laughable article in this week's papers. To quote this weeks MP's column in the SNJ

'There is a common perception portrayed in the media that being a newly elected backbench Member of Parliament means that you are just 'lobby fodder', whipped through the voting lobbies of Westminster supporting the government, and that you can't influence policy unless you are promoted to being a minister.

My experience as a new MP...
