Badger

TUC
I am pleased that at long last the Trades Union Congress is beginning to provide some leadership against the mad and unfair cuts being imposed by the Coalition. Clearly we don't know how bad it will become because we have yet to get the Comprehensive Spending Review that will be released later in October. However from the cuts that are already happening it is clear that all apart from the very rich are in for a very tough time.
Talking the land
I was asked to be a speaker at the recent Co-operative Party Conference fringe. My chosen topic was the importance of land in politics specialising in my support for Land Value Taxation.
The Labour Leadership
As ballot papers arrive on members' doorsteps I have to say that I have been pleased at the comradely way in which the debate has been conducted. Sadly you will not have read and heard about this as at times there has been a virtual news black-out such is the way in which the debate has progressed.
Stroud Fringe
Good to see that the Fringe Festival allied to the Walking and Food Festival in Stroud Town has gone from success to success. Whilst in its reconstituted form it is now smaller and pub-based it is good that the area still has a reputation for music.
Sheltered Housing
The current consultation being organised by Stroud District Council on the future of Scheme Managers (Wardens) at Sheltered Housing Schemes is both important and worthy of proper examination. Whilst the consultation is highly questionable given that the Option D, the one preferred by the tenants themselves has been mysteriously dropped by the Administration at SDC, it is vital that all concerned listen to the views of the residents themselves.
Generals
The outbursts by former General Sir Richard Dannatt are both untimely as well as unseemly. Like politicians there is a need for a time of reflection before rushing into print.

Blog Fighting the Cuts

'I had hoped for a 1000 today at our initial protest against the cuts in Gloucestershire. In the end more turned up despite it being a wet November morning. Let no one be disabused that this is the start of something big. It was great to see trade unionists, politicians, religious leaders, community activists, civil society and members of the general public come together to start the campaign that will take the Coalition on here, there and everywhere. It will be enough to make them sick in...
